The profits from this poster go to the Central Asia Institute. This organization was founded by Greg Mortenson. Mortenson’s book Three Cups of Tea played a big role in the inspiration for the Remakers project. It’s his account of a failed attempt to climb K2 in Pakistan, followed by his experience building multiple schools in Afghanistan.

The Central Asia Institute’s mission is to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. They accomplish this goal by building schools, supporting teachers, and providing support for health based initiatives. At each project stage local elders and experts are involved to ensure that projects are effective and on task.

• School library projects
• 824 graduates from Porter Training Program
• Teacher Training Workshops
• 58,000 students educated, including 40,000 girls

We donate all the profits directly – without any restrictions or requests. The Central Asia Institute does give some idea about how much different aspects of their programming costs. Generally, for every 2 posters we sell – a girl in Afghanistan or Pakistan gets a years worth of school supplies.

The Poster

The poster is a 13×19 digital print on archival Moab Kayenta paper. The quote on the print is from the Dalai Lama.

Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where the people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free.
