I spend a lot of time scouring the web for cool organizations that do great work. Often, I’ll stumble across a site that looks like it’s a 2-person operation running out of the back of 86′ Honda Civic, only to discover that they have 45 employees and a 2 million dollar operating budget. On the flip side (though rarely), I find an organization that is so polished and well packaged that I’m convinced they spent their entirely operating budget hiring Oglivy to build their website.
It’s nearly 2010 – why does this still happen? Over the next few weeks I’m going to break down the steps that you should be going through to build your organization a solid flexible website. If you don’t know how to turn on your computer – this isn’t for you. If you’re relatively tech savvy – ask a lot of questions and you’ll be fine.

This series is not a replacement for hiring a professional. People pay me to build them websites, and I think they get their money’s worth. Throughout the course I’ll try and highlight the spots where hiring a professional is a must, suggested, or a waste of money. In a perfect world, I’d say outsource all of it. Focus on what your organization does best. But sadly, that isn’t an option for most of you, so were going to help you make the right decisions.
